Natural Grandma’s started about 8 years ago when long time friends Carol Ortega and Liz Rogers decided to try to market some of the products that Carol’s prolific gardening produced. Carol is an advanced master gardener who loves herbs and flowers. Liz’s background is in marketing and they are both former teachers.
They first started doing workshops with dried flowers making wreaths and other decorative items. But they also loved bath oils and potpourris and other things that smelled good and looked pretty. The more they learned about the therapeutic effect of herbs and flowers they more they became fascinated with developing products that would both help de stress a person’s life while providing beneficial effects on the skin and body. All of their products have been tested on their own bodies and all of their family and friends and then introduced into their workshops. They have averaged about 40 workshops for Women a year over the last 8 years.
Some of the recipes that they use for their products are ones that have been used in their families for generations, like the body crème used by Carol’s mother to heal her hands after she worked all day making pots. She was a Master Potter and taught pottery at Weber State College (now Weber State University). Their body crème is named after her - Crescent’s Body Crème. Others have been designed by Liz and Carol using ingredients that their mothers and grandmothers have used and loved.
They use carrier oils that are natural plant oils like almond oil, sunflower oil and grape seed oil. They add no preservatives to their products with the exception of Vitamin E, which is a natural preservative and a natural sun screen. Vitamin E is added to some, but not all of their products. They use essential and fragrance oils to scent most of their products. They add flavored oils to their lip balm. |
